MARQUETTE COUNTY LAKES ASSOCIATION 

Spring meeting

May 19, 2016

6:30 p.m. Marquette County Service Center
President Ron Sabel called the meeting to order at 6:36 p.m.

Introductions were made after the Pledge of Allegiance

Board Members Present:  John Cotter, Al Rosenthal, Mike Jacobi, Ron Sabel, Doug Griesbach, Lee Vaughan and Robert Krause

Also Present:  Pat Kilbey, Krista Kamke.  There was 33 in attendance

Minutes of the September 10, 2015 minutes were read and approved on a motion by Bob Krause and second by John Cotter.  Approved

Special Awards were given to two retiring Board Members.  Dave Casper and Doug Griesbach received recognition plaques from the MCLA and the County for all their work to keep the quality of the County waters high.

Lori Kilian was introduced as a new Board member who will take Doug’s place, and Ron Sabel announced we are looking for at least one more Board Member.  If interested to contact Ron or Al.

Treasurers Report – Lee gave the treasurer’s report Beginning balance was $1260.56, with expenses of $222.07 and income of $480.00 for an ending balance of $1470.49.  Report was approved on a motion by Doug Griesbach and a second by Mike Jacobi.  Approved

Ron introduced Marty and Arnie Wilke, who live on Spring Lake in Waushara County and are spokes people for the Central Sands Water Action Coalition. The following hand outs were given to those in attendance and are part of these minutes.

2014 Groundwater Annual Withdrawals for Portage County

Key findings of the Little Plover River groundwater flow modeling project in Wisconsin Central Sands Region

Marty and Arnie led a discussion on the effects of too many high capacity wells on area lakes, and encouraged lake organizations to sign on with the Central Sands Water Action Coalition.

Krista Kamke our County AIS Coordinator gave a report on what was being done to eliminate and/or control purple loosestrife in Marquette County.  A handout was given to those in attendance and is part of these minutes.  She also talked about some of the things that would be going on this summer.

Pat Kilbey gave a report on lake level monitoring and stream flow monitoring that has been done in Marquette County and how that data is being used and how important it is to continue to gather the data. 

Ron Sabel reported that the MCLA will be co-sponsoring a presentation on Healthy Lakes by members of the State Committee who developed the program and the grants.  Tom Onofrey, our County Zoning Administrator was on the committee.  The presentation will be on July 28th and will be held at the County Court House in the evening.  Waushara County, Adams County and Green Lake County will be invited.  More information will follow.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m. on a motion by John Cotter and second by Mike Jacobi.  Approved
