ANNUAL MEETING
September 29, 2011
6:30 pm. Marquette County Service Center
Board Members Present: Doug Griesbach, Mike Jacobi, Ron Sabel, Bob Krause, Walt Brudnowski and Al Rosenthal
Also Present: Pat Kilbey, Sheriff Kim Gaffney, Warden Judi Nigbor and 38 other members representing the Marquette County lakes.
The meeting was called to order by President Ron Sabel at 6:38 p.m.
Minutes of the September 30, 2010 Annual Meeting were presented and approved on a motion by Kent Pfiefer and a second by Lori Killian.
Financial Report and Membership---In the absence of Lee Vaughn the report was given from the August 23, 2011 director’s minutes. $1845.69 in the check book, and 21 lakes have paid dues for 2011. The report was approved on a motion by Julie Stagner and a second by Kent Pfiefer.
President Sabel introduced Sheriff Kim Gaffney
Sheriff Gaffney talked about the organization of the sheriff’s department and will respond if called, but cannot enforce local ordinance’s, the ordinances need to be approved by the County Board.
Enforcement Officer. Town of Harris has an enforcement officer. If any township hires an enforcement officer they should contact Sheriff Gaffney.
Bob Clarke and Mary Jo Vance who have places on Lake Pleasant gave a report on Richfield Dairy CAFO Farm and the pending law suit and the concern for water quality due to the large farm and the sandy soils in this area.
Board of Directors Update
Al Rosenthal reported on the ordinance that the Town of Packwaukee just approved to control High Capacity wells in the township, especially those that do not return the water to the soil. He also reported on the pending ordinance for Moon/Birch Lake which will not allow motorized boats on the lake.
Pat Kilbey reported on the DNR aquatic invasive species signs that have been put up at all boat landings. This was done with the help of the Marquette County Lakes Association.
Lori Killian reported on the Boat Safety Classes that were taken last March by a number of members of the Marquette County Lakes Association. They have not been certified yet to teach, but should be for next Spring.
Old Business
Wisconsin Lakes-Regional Plan
Al Rosenthal reported that the NE Leadership team of the Wisconsin Lakes is in the process of organizing. The Wisconsin Lakes is developing leadership teams in all parts of the State, the purpose is to develop a network of people to advocate for specific issues, and to develop regional issues that need the attention of the Wisconsin Lakes Board of Directors.
Lake Patrol—Enforcing Lake Ordinances
This issue will continue to be discussed at future Marquette County Lakes Association meetings.
New Business
Place Mats-Aquatic Invasive Species
Doug Griesbach reported on place mats that were in Oconto County, and said we would look at it as a promotion next Spring.
The next meeting date and topic will be determined, but it will be in May of 2012. It was the feeling of the group that we keep it on Thursday evening, instead of a week end day.
A motion was made by Mike Jacobi to adjourn at 8:28 pm. and the motion was seconded by Bob Krause.
