Minutes of the Feb 9, 2012 Board of Directors Meeting

Board of Directors Meeting
February 9, 2012
1:30 p.m. Marquette County Agricultural Center


Board Members Present: Ron Sabel, Dave Casper, Mike Jacobi, Doug Griesbach, John Cotter, Lee Vaughn, Bob Krause and Al Rosenthal

Also Present: Pat Kilbey

Meeting was called to order by President Ron Sabel at 1:34 p.m.

Minutes of November 10, 2011 were approved on a motion by Mike Jacobi and a second by Dave Casper. Approved.

Treasurer’s Report
Lee Vaughn gave the treasurer’s report which is attached to official minutes. Balance $2189.09 as of 12/31/11. Lee also reported that lake membership was at 18. Those lakes which have not paid 2012 dues, have received a second notice. The treasurer’s and membership reports were approved on a motion by Dave Casper and a second by Bob Krause. Approved.

Place Mats
After much discussion, which included a cost analysis and contacts made by Ron & Mike at restaurants dealing with the use of place mats, a motion was made by Al Rosenthal and seconded by Ron Sabel to not go forward with this project. Approved.

Wisconsin Lake’s Agenda
Al Rosenthal reported on Wisconsin Lakes Association and a meeting he attended with the DNR. The DNR went over various grants and especially the AIS grants.
A motion was made by Mike Jacobi and seconded by Lee Vaughn that the Marquette County Lakes Association go on record to support the County to apply for an aquatic invasive species coordinator for Marquette County through a Lake Protection Grant. Approved

Lotus Plant Project
Al Rosenthal reported on the Lotus plant project on Buffalo Lake. The project is headed by Rich Brefeld. Rich Brefeld has requested a letter of support from MCLA and a contribution for poles to be placed at boat landings on Buffalo Lake. The poles will hold signs letting people know about Lotus plants, and why they should be protected.
A motion was made by Mike Jacobi and seconded by Al Rosenthal that MCLA would send a letter of support of the project and would support in principal a stipend of $140.00 for the poles to hold the Lotus plant signs at the Buffalo Lake boat landings. Approved
Al Rosenthal will ask Rich Brefeld to present to MCLA a short update on the Lotus plant project, and for him to give a short report at the May 10th Spring meeting.

Spring Joint Lakes Meeting
The Spring Joint lakes meeting will be held on May 10, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. in Montello. The main speakers will be John Kerkhaver. Lobbyist for Wisconsin Lakes, Toni Herkert, policy director for Wisconsin Lakes, and Scott Froehlke, lobbyist for a group of lakes in Waushara County and the spear head behind a water coalition group in the Central Sands area.
A motion was made by Ron Sabel and seconded by Lee Vaughn to approve the program for May 10th. Approved
Rich Brefeld will be invited to give an update on the Lotus project and Jean MacCubbin to give an update on the CAFO near Pleasant Lake. Mike Jacobi will report on the Town Law Enforcement Officer for Sharon Lake, and there township.

Water Monitoring Stations
Pat Kilbey will give a report at the Spring Joint Lakes meeting . The stations that have been installed completely are working well, but some stations have not be completed. There is a possibility that new stations could be added at Sandy Lake and Kilby Lake. After the April Board meeting a work crew will be put together to complete and add new stations.

Next Board of Directors Meeting will be held on April 13, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at the Westfield office.

Boat Safety Classes
Pat Kilbey will contact Lori Killian to set up a meeting with the certified instructors to decide what the next steps will be in offering boat safety classes in Marquette County.

Bob Krause reported on some issues that Lake Mason is facing, and Mike Jacobi told about Sharon Lake and how they were hoping to use a Town Law Enforcement Officers. Mike will report on this at the Spring Joint Lake Meeting.
