MARQUETTE COUNTY LAKES ASSOCIATION
BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
January 14, 2016

Meeting was called to order at 1:30 p.m. by President Ron Sabel
Board Members Present:  Ron Sabel, John Cotter, Lee Vaughan and Al Rosenthal

Also Present:  Pat Kilbey, Krista Kamke and Tom Onofrey

The October 6, 2015 minutes were read and approved on a motion by Ron Sabel and a second by John Cotter. Approved

Lee gave the treasurers and membership report.  We have a balance of $1260.40 and nine lakes have paid their dues for 2016.  Ron made a motion to approve the report, second by John.  Approved.  Treasurers and membership report attached.

Tom Onofrey discussed changes to the shoreland zoning ordinances due to State legislature changes.  He also discussed proposed bills that would also change ordinances dealing with lake property.  The County will be developing ordinances for building of boat houses and sizes, etc.  The role of Marquette County Lakes Association and the proposed changes were discussed and it was agreed that our role would be to educate the lake land owners and provide information to them about the effects of these changes might have on their lake property and the quality of the lake water.

A memorandum of Agreement for Participating Organizations was received by the Central Sands Action Coalition.  It was decided since we only had a few Board Members present that any action would be TABLED till we could receive a recommendation from Mike Jacobi and present to the lakes at the May meeting.

 Marquette County LWCG

Pat reported that Morgan is now full time.  Water elevation reports are to be sent to Pat and will be working with the stream volunteers again.  DNR will be meeting with the County Conservationists to report what they are doing with the various water data that is being recorded.

Per diem for LWCG Committee representative from MCLA was tabled till February meeting.  It is hoped that this person will become a full time member in the months to come and will be paid a per diem by the County.

 Wisconsin Lakes

Al reported that Wisconsin Lakes has had to let go of Susan because of budget cuts, and that presently Wisconsin Lakes has 1.5 FTE.  Mike, the executive director has been very busy giving testimony at the various hearings dealing with shoreland preservation and water quality.  He has also been sending legislative alerts out to over 3000 members on a regular basis.  Next Board meeting is in February.

 AIS Coordinator

Krista gave the directors a list of what she has done and accomplished since our last meeting. This included a survey of Sandy Lake, being part of a training class on October 8th and 9th on the removal of invasive species from the water.  This was on the White River flowage and was sponsored by Golden Sands.  She is presently working to line up libraries in the county that will help raise purple loose strife beetles next spring.  Krista has been nominated to attend the Lake Leaders Institute, and if elected the MCLA association will help sponsor her.

The joint Lake Convention is March 31st thru April 2nd in Stevens Point.

Next Board of Directors meeting will be held on February 25th at 1:30 p.m. in Westfield.

Motion by Al to adjourn and seconded by John at 3:00 p.m.  Approved
