SPRING MEETING
May 17, 2012
6:30 p.m. Marquette County Service Center
Board Members Present: Dave Casper, John Cotter, Lee Vaughn, Ron Sabel, Mike Jacobi, Robert Krause, Doug Griesbach, and Al Rosenthal
Also Present: Ryan Glassmaker, John Keckhaver, and 32 other members representing the Marquette County Lakes.
The meeting was called to order by President Ron Sabel at 6: 35 p.m. Board members and quest’s were introduced.
John Kechaver: Government relations & Analysis LLC and lobbyist for Wisconsin Lakes gave an update and current status of proposed legislation pertaining to lakes and shore land. John gave on a sheet on the 2011-12 legislative session, sheet attached to minutes.
Scott Froehlke: Central Sands Water Action Coalition. Scott discussed the newly formed water action coalition and its goals for Marquette County. Scott gave Al Rosenthal a series of essays for the Central Sands written by A.J. Bussan, George Kraft, and Justin Isherwood. Anyone interested in reading it or obtaining at copy should contact Al.
Reports
Rich Brefeld was not able to be at the meeting, but Ron Sabel reported that Marquette County Lakes Association gave $140.00 to the Lotus Plant Project on Buffalo Lake. The money is to go to purchase poles to put signs up at the boat landings warning that boat should not drive thru the Lotus plants.
Jean MacCubbin gave an update on the CAFO in the Pleasant Lake area. A hearing will be held in October concerning the permits for the building of the CAFO. A folder was handed out explaining why PLMD was challenging the Richfield Factory Farm high capacity well permits. Copy of the folder is attached to these minutes.
Lori Killian announced that a boat safety class would be held July 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th at the Westfield Public Library conference room in Westfield. Mark Judas, who has taught a number of these boat safety classes in Green Lake County, will be the lead instructor. The class is being sponsored by the Marquette County Lakes Association. The class will have a capacity of 20 and will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. each evening.
Mike Jacobi discussed the formation of a boating enforcement position for the Town of Newton on Sharon Lake. A similar position is present in the Town of Harris. Much discussion followed.
Dean Stefanczyk lead a discussion on establishing a buffer zone on lake property. Dean will be talking with Tom Onofrey, County Zoning , and lake groups to see what interest there is in establishing such a zone for the betterment of the lakes.
