SPRING NEWSLETTER

MARQUETTE COUNTY LAKES ASSOCIATION
SPRING NEWSLETTER

The ice is starting to go out and soon we will be on the water!!

1.        April 9-11th the Wisconsin Lakes Partner Convention in Green Bay…attached is information on the convention.

2.        Boat Safety Class
Last summer we had our first boat safety class in Westfield and had 15 students.  We are planning on having at least one boat safety class this year and it is scheduled for
April 30th/May 1st and May 7th/May 8th.  The class will be held at the Packwaukee Town Hall from 6:00 to 8:30 each of those 4 evenings.  Remember everyone born after 1989 needs to have past a boat safety class and received their certificate in order to drive a power boat.  The fee for the class is $10.00 per student, which goes to the DNR.  Students 11 years old and up are encouraged to take the course, and parents are encouraged to take the course with their children.

If you know of anyone interested, you can e-mail or call Lori Killian at 715-340-8983, lkillian83@gmail.com or Al Rosenthal at 608-589-5036, allen.carolyn@maqs.net.  We will need at least 10 students to teach the class, which includes a visit from the game warden and review of an actual boat.

3.        May meeting of the Marquette County Lakes Association

May 9th at 6:30 p.m. at the Service Center on Underwood Ave. in Montello.  Free pizza and pop.   The program is still be worked on, but we discuss the status of stream, lake monitoring program which will be starting in Marquette County this summer, clean-boats-clean water project and hopefully someone from Prairie Nursery to finish their presentation from last Spring.  I am sure there will be a number of other items to discuss.

4.        I just received word from Pat Kilbey last week that that Golden Sands RC&D was awarded a grant for an AIS (Aquatic Invasive Species) Coordinator for Marquette/Green Lake Counties, and hopefully someone will be hired by May 9th and the person will be at the MCLA meeting.

5.       A few lakes have not paid their dues for 2013.  My records show that White Lake, Lake Mason, Lawrence Lake, Montello Lake P&R District, Neenah Lake, and Sandy Lake have not paid for 2013, if those records are wrong, let me know, or if you do not plan on paying in 2013, please let me know.  Al Rosenthal at allen.carolyn@maqs.net Thanks!!

See you on May 9th.  Al Rosenthal, Secretary
